More about the scholarships: Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery is offering, twice annually, a $1,000 Recovery Workforce Development scholarship for career-minded individuals in the Mental Health, Alcohol or Drug workforce, as well as individuals in recovery seeking to advance their education in a MH/AoD related field.

Applicants must be either an employee of a not-for-profit behavioral health organization located in Stark County, Ohio, OR a Stark County resident with lived experience interested in working in the behavioral health field and advancing their education through enrollment in an accredited vocational, technical or college program. Funding will be available from the Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery Charitable Fund held at Stark Community Foundation.

TRAINING CENTER: Don’t miss these February & March opportunities

FEBRUARY 2017 TRAININGS

W/R-February 15/16, 2017 from 8:30 PM-12:30 PM: Mental Health First Aid Training for Youth. This is an 8-hour public education program designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health, addiction or crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD) and eating disorders. 8.0 CEUs offered as well as 3-year certification. MARCH 2017 TRAININGS

M-F-March 20-24, 2017 from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM: Integrated Ohio Peer Supporter Training. Ohio’s peer supporter training includes a 40-hour in-person integrated peer training, 16 hours of E-Based Academy Courses and a test. The integrated peer support curriculum was funded through a SAMHSA BRSS TACS grant in an effort to promote the widespread adoption of recovery oriented supports, services and systems for people in recovery from mental health and/or substance use disorders. W-R-March 29-30, 2017 from 9:00 AM-4:30 PM: Facilitating Healing, Resiliency & Hope. Part I: Hardwired for Connection; Part II: The Healing Power of Connection. Trauma is now recognized as a nearly universal experience of individuals with behavioral health problems often resulting in a complex array of social, emotional and behavioral challenges. Through understanding of the latest trauma research and careful translation into practice, we can help trauma survivors experience healing, resiliency and hope. This lively and interactive training brings to life the neuroscience of trauma and the healing power of relationships. This training also provides self-care for caregivers and service providers so they have what they need to assist with the important journey of healing.
